Education is our #1 goal!

Thank you for your interest in the Malcolm Smith Project in Valle Trinidad. The incredible support from the motorsport community has been a surprise to myself and my family. We began helping the children of Mexico in 1995 as a personal mission. With the support of the motorsport community it has grown into something we could never have imagined.

In 2002, at the urging of Mexican officials, I created Malcolm Smith Motorsports Foundation, a California 501c3 non-profit. The Foundation status facilitates our border crossings with materials and equipment to be used at El Oasis. Second, it gives the motorsport community the benefit of having the contributions they make on behalf of El Oasis, tax deductible.

Our efforts include:

  • New computer lab in 2008 with Dell Computers (Larry Holt)
  • Funding for staff-maintenance
  • Satellite system for Telecommunications-Phone and Internet
  • Wireless Internet for all the homes as well as internet hot spot for the motorsports community.
  • 2007-2008 school year-funded 100% of all education expenses for every child-kindergarden through University; including books, uniforms, transportation, room and board, and tuition.
  • New well in 2007 for household drinking water
  • Chase House Playground honoring Chase Feldkamp
  • Over $150,000 in general operating funding – Rider Don Mackey Auto Group
  • Purchased toys for the children at Christmas
  • Purchased bicycles and tires for the children-Son Alexander hosts bicycle “fix it” clinics.
  • Purchased a big toy for the play ground
  • Paid to have a professional team clean and swab the well $7,000
  • Purchased and installed a new 70 HP water pump-Rider John Wheeler
  • Purchased and installed 2.5 miles of underground irrigation-Smith Family and Loma Linda Academy students
  • Purchased and planted over 400 fruit and shade trees- Smith Family and Loma Linda Academy students
  • Donated a van –Zan Smith
  • Purchased, shipped, assembled and placed over 100 bunk beds and bedroom furniture in all the homes-Racer Dan Ragland- Smith Family and Loma Linda Academy students
  • Purchased and installed water purification systems in all the homes
  • Funded and personally built a basketball/play court Smith Family and Loma Linda Academy students
  • Purchased new chairs for the facility-Rider Dennis Stajic
  • Funded and built the foundation for the new Edu-Center
    • Riders/Racers: Glen Davies, Bill Wheeler, Dennis Stajic, David Otermat, Smith Family
  • Funded all but $10,000 of the total cost for the new Edu-Center
  • Installed electrical wiring and systems in Edu Center-Motorcycle Rider David Otermat, Smith Family
  • Annual Christmas visit and party with Santa (Dangerous David Kincaid) and gifts for all the children
  • Personalized backpacks for all the children-Rider Bill Wheeler

When we began at El Oasis, the first children to arrive were small, ages 2-4 years old. Today those children are entering High school and University. It is our goal to provide a higher education for these children, to assure their self sufficiency and to give them the tools they need to be leaders in Baja.

From Buddy and Jessica...

"While nothing can ever bring him back, my wife and I have chosen to honor him with the "Chase House project" at El Oasis Orphanage at Valle Trinidad(as seen on Dust to Glory). Our hope is to have a place for the greater off-road community to give something back to those kids who were not as privileged as our Chase. "
